Hernandez sends United nine clear

Manchester United moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League as Javier Hernandez's late goal clinched a crucial 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side found it tough to break down a resolute Everton defence and looked in danger of dropping two points at Old Trafford, but Mexican striker Hernandez ended the stalemate with a close-range header seven minutes from full-time.
Hernandez's winner piles the pressure back onto title rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, who both trail United by nine points.
Second placed Chelsea host West Ham later on Saturday, while third placed Arsenal travel to Bolton on Sunday.
Ferguson saluted 19-goal Hernandez's efforts in his debut season in England and said: "We didn't expect that level of performance. He comes in every day at nine and he's the last to leave, this boy is very dedicated."
The United boss is confident his side can end the title race by beating Arsenal and Chelsea in their next two matches.
"The thing that puzzles me is people keep saying Arsenal and Chelsea have got to play us still, like we're going to lose them...why shouldn't we win those games?" he said.
"There are only four games left and the way the players are going about their business gives them an outstanding chance of success."
With a Champions League semifinal first leg clash against Schalke looming on Tuesday, Ferguson rested Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick.
United still dominated the first half and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard made two good saves to frustrate Hernandez.
Everton, who hadn't won at Old Trafford since 1992, felt aggrieved that referee Peter Walton didn't give a penalty early in the second half when Rio Ferdinand tugged back Victor Anichebe.
David Moyes' men almost snatched the lead when Jack Rodwell's long-range effort forced a sprawling save from Edwin Van der Sar.
United were struggling to breach Everton's defence. Even when they got through, Fabio da Silva's cross was turned onto a post by Toffees defender Sylvain Distin.
But they finally made the breakthrough in the 83rd minute when Antonio Valencia's cross to the far post was headed in by Hernandez from virtually on the goal-line.

Papers: Reds want Wesley

22/04/2011 08:30
Wesley Sneijder
Reds launch £25m Sneijder raid to replace Scholes
Sir Alex Ferguson will try to exploit growing turmoil at Inter Milan by making a concerted attempt to sign Wesley Sneijder at the end of the season. Though a huge admirer of Tottenham’s Luka Modric, the Manchester United manager has set his sights on Sneijder as his principal summer target and is prepared to meet a £25million asking price to prise him away from the San Siro. Recruiting a midfielder with drive and energy is Ferguson’s priority, and the feedback on Sneijder’s likely availability has encouraged the Old Trafford boss to seek clearance to proceed with a bid. Sportsmail understands an offer will be lodged with Inter, and their president Massimo Moratti is willing to sanction the Holland World Cup midfielder’s departure, despite him signing a long-term deal this  season. Sneijder, 26, accepted improved terms until 2015 but has since seen Inter unravel under coach Leonardo, with the one-time Brazil midfielder coming under heavy fire for his tactical approach to their Champions League tie against Schalke and Serie A clash against city rivals AC Milan. Sneijder, who spent two seasons at Real Madrid before joining Inter in summer 2009, is ready for a fresh start and evidently relishes the challenge of replacing Paul Scholes as United’s new midfield general.
John Edwards, Daily Mail
The Mail also claims United are monitoring Porto centre-back Rolando and striker Hulkwith the Portugese champions apparently ready to cash in on their main assets to ease financial worries.
Meanwhile, The Sun say Sir Alex hopes to have Darren Fletcher, who has been out since early March with a virus, back by the end of the month. The paper also ask three former players - Ian Wright, Lou Macari and Clive Walker - to give their verdict on the Premier League title run-in with the trio all backing the Reds to land the Championship crown.

Manchester Derby

Strong squad' for derby

Sir Alex Ferguson has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the Manchester derby at Wembley on Saturday.
Although Wayne Rooney is controversially ruled out through suspension, the rest of the squad involved in the Champions League win over Chelsea came through it unscathed.
Darren Fletcher remains sidelined, even though he is back in training, but there is intense competition for places for a starting spot in the FA Cup semi-final clash.
“Everyone is fit from the other night,” revealed the boss. “We’re missing Wayne obviously which is the only downside.
“We’ve got a strong squad – our bench the other night reflect that.
“’Fletch’ is back in training although he’s not doing a lot. He’s put weight back on which is good. He’s still a couple of weeks away.”
